Laura De Castro Selected as At-Large Representative for DNC Youth Council
Laura De Castro was selected to be the At-Large Representative for the South for the DNC Youth Council. She is the first Hispanic American from North Carolina to be named to the post. One of the main goals of the Youth Council is to ensure the Democratic Party maintains the majority of the youth vote and to increase the involvement of young people in the DNC and state parties.

As Charlotte gears up to possibly host the Democratic National Convention, students at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte are currently holding their own convention. More than 250 CDA members from more than 100 colleges and universities across the country attended this year's convention.
Butterfield Urges Boost for WWII Merchant Mariners
Washington, D.C. – Congressman G. K. Butterfield has offered legislation to help World War II U.S. Merchant Marines receive earned veterans benefits. With fewer than 10,000 World War II Merchant Mariners still alive today, it is important to ensure they have the full opportunity to apply for benefits earned through service to our country,” Butterfield said.
