The Democratic National Committee announced Wednesday that Charlotte is one of the four finalists to host its convention in 2012, competing against Cleveland, St. Louis, and Minneapolis. The Queen City would be an ideal location to host this important event, with a thriving downtown, a rich cultural history, and the capacity to accommodate a wide range of interests and tastes. A convention would bring jobs and money to the area. Denver estimated in 2008 that it raked in $266 million as a result of the 2008 Democratic convention.
The selection of Charlotte as a finalist shows that North Carolina continues to be a key battleground state and will be one of the most important states on the political map in 2012.
